
A short note on Wordpress. Know it quick!
With its latest release of WordPress version 2.8, released on 11 June 2009, Wordpress is one of the most wanted free and open source blog publishing application and Content Management System. Its templating system includes widgets that can be rearranged without editing PHP or HTML code, as well as themes that can be installed and switched between and also their PHP and HTML code can be edited for more advanced customizations. WordPress features also include integrated link management; a search engine-friendly, clean permalink structure; multiple author capability; and support for tagging of posts and articles. It has automatic filters that convert regular quotes to smart quotes.
The versions of Wordpress since the time its known are- 0.70, 1.2, 1.5, 2.0 - 2.8. WordPress was designed to support one weblog per installation, although multiple blogging may be run from different directories if configured to use separate database tables. WordPress MU (multi-user) makes it possible for a user with a website to host his own blogging community, control, and moderate all the blogs from a single dashboard. WordPress MU adds eight new data tables for each blog.
Following are a few features of the many that a general user would fall in love with while using wordpress-
1. It offers native versions of WordPress.com in over 50 languages.
2. One can have multiple blogs, as many as he wishes to.
3. If one has already has a blog and would like to move it over to WordPress.com, he can import his content from Blogger, LiveJournal, Movable Type, TypePad, or an existing WordPress blog.
4. WordPress.com allows its users to have a completely public blog, a blog which is public but not included in search engines or our public listings, or a private blog which only members can access. In case user wants a public blog, but only occasionally post something private, it provides a per-post password option, too!
5. One can leave WordPress.com any time without having to worry of his content being locked.
6. Its a great tool for writing posts and uploading photos.
7. WordPress.com uses Akismet, the world’s best comment and trackback spam technology, which blocks spammers from leaving comments on a blog. Additional to the above are many more awesome features of wordpress.
